The team and the role

The business operations and supply chain software delivery teams are empowered, mission-centric teams that are responsible for creating, shipping, and running air up’s open-source ERP system and other backend services. This includes evolving our ERP system as well as creating new microservices or serverless functions to further automate mission-critical business processes.

As Senior Backend Engineer, you are part of a delivery team and responsible for building, testing and shipping new features for our open-source ERP system and backend services. We expect you to be comfortable working with multiple programming languages and modern cloud infrastructure. Given our high standards when it comes to automated testing and deployment, you will also contribute to our CI/CD infrastructure, to help deliver software into production continuously.

What you'll do

Be part of a cross-functional, mission-driven and self-organizing delivery team.
Create, build, test and deliver code changes across the entire technology stack.
Constantly learn and improve yourself and everything around you.
Lead technical initiatives, evolve system design, improve codebase health, foster good engineering practices, lead and be a role model to other engineers.

About you

Must have:

You have excellent Kotlin and/or Java knowledge with at least 7 years of professional experience
You have successfully designed and built modern cloud-native distributed systems.
You have solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
You have as much of a passion for building great products as you do for writing great code.
You are strongly aligned with agile, lean and DevOps values and principles.
You are a mindful, transparent, and communicative team member.
You hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field (or an intriguing reason for not having one).

Nice to have:

Previous experience with AWS
Previous experience with Python
Previous experience breaking down a monolithic application into microservices.
Previous experience improving performance of larger relational databases.

Our tech stack:

Modern Java/Kotlin and Python.
AWS (Lambda, Fargate, EventBridge, DynamoDB, etc.), GitHub, Docker, Terraform, Datadog.
Retrospectives, agile/XP, on-call, post-mortems, working in small batches, agile/XP.
Trunk-based development, {build, test, deployment, infrastructure} automation, continuous integration, DORA metrics, and practices enabling Continuous Delivery.
Serverless, microservices, hexagonal and event-driven architectures.
